A Seed is Sleepy by Dianna Hutts Aston
Beautiful illustrations and clear text explain how a seed seems sleepy but there's actually a lot going on inside getting ready to sprout! This book is available as an ebook on Hoopla through the public library. Also read An Egg is Quiet or A Beetle is Shy by the same author.

The Vanderbeekers of 141st Street by Karina Yan Glaser
This book was our Lawrence Reads choice this year! The Vanderbeeker family lives in New York City in an old brownstone. It has been their home forever. When the story begins their grouchy landlord has given them just a week to find a new place to live. The five siblings each try to convince Mr. Biederman that they should be able to stay. The sequels are also great. The newest title in the series, The Vanderbeekers Lost and Found, is due out in September. http://www.karinaglaser.com/resources

The Wee Free Men by Terry Pratchett
Tiffany Aching is a witch. She discovers this fact at the beginning of this fantasy series. She doesn't seem quite the type to be a witch...after all, who ever heard of a witch named Tiffany?? But she has talents that are encouraged by mentor witches and her alliance with the Wee Free Men-- a group of small, blue, sword wielding, very funny warriors. In this first book she must go to Fairyland to rescue her brother and ends up challenging the Queen of the Elves to get him back. First in a series of five books.
Public Library Resource:
Have you tried searching Hoopla for ebooks and digital audiobooks? It is available through the public libraries (both Boston and Brookline) and there are no wait lists for any of the titles. You will need your library card number in order to check out a book (but ecards are available for both Boston and Brookline Public Libraries). Check the box that says "Kids" next to the search box to limit your search to just kids' titles. There is a limit of 7 borrowed items a month so choose carefully!
